St. Vincent de Paul’s Portable Pantry

Spring in Mt. Clemens started as usual – it snowed on Monday.  We are glad that Joe Bryzelak has a tent that we use to protect our tables and ourselves from the weather during pantry hours.

We received troubling news on Monday that Forgotten Harvest, one of our major sources for fresh food, was suspending operations because of the lack of supplies at the supermarket.  You can understand their decision if you went to the store looking for bread and meat following St. Patrick’s Day.  However, our route driver, who visits the pantry on a weekly basis, did not let us down.  He arrived as usual on Wednesday and we were able to stock our freezer.

Our runners – Brendan, Jacob, Matthew and Owen, did not disappoint us this week.  They are eager to help and they are getting a glimpse of the life that many others live in the county.

Neighbors are being thoughtful and generous by dropping off groceries at the pantry.  One man, who would not give his name, handed a very large cash donation to the Vincentians in Fr. Mike’s driveway.  That money will go toward buying fresh meat for distribution this week.

Well, with social distancing in place, we can’t ask you to stop and chat with us as you go by on New Street.  But, please honk and wave to let us know you are keeping your neighbors-in-need in your thoughts and prayers.    Keep an eye on your elderly neighbors and let us know if someone needs help.  Again, our pantry hours are:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday

10:00 a.m. to 12 noon
