The goal of these ministries is to provide fellowship, hospitality and social support.
Absent Membership Caller
These people call our members who have been absent from the church to see if they are ill, and let them know that they are missed.
Time Commitment: As often as needed, and as often as you would like.
Alpha is for everyone who wants to explore life's big questions. Attending Alpha is different. There is no pressure. You may come and go as you like; attend all the sessions or attend one session. Alpha is a relaxed, low key, friendly and fun way to explore questions like "Who is Jesus?", "How do we know he exists?", and more. Everyone is welcome.
Time Commitment: Volunteers are needed to assist the Alpha Facilitators as Group Leaders, Greeters, Conversation Starters, Clean Up, etc.
These caring parish members provide ongoing support for their fellow parish members who have lost a loved one either through follow-up calls, notes, or through our Grief Support Group sessions.
Time Commitment: 1 hour a week for a 6-7 week session.
Cemetery Beautification Team Member
These members mow, edge, trim, and plant annuals to make our cemetery a nicer place to visit. We invite everyone out to help us make our cemetery a beautiful, peaceful place to visit.
Time Commitment: As much time as you care to spend during the spring/summer/fall seasons.
Child Care during Parish Events
This ministry provides quality childcare for parents while they attend parish activities that would not be age-appropriate for small children. We enlist help from teenagers in the Youth Group as volunteers as well as mature adults.
Time Commitment: As needed
Christmas Giving Trees Committee Member
Members help to organize gift selections, create the giving tags, decorate the trees, sort and distribute the gifts after collection.
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours during Advent.
Communion Service Leader for Three Senior High-rises
These leaders share their love for the Eucharist and their compassion for our seniors by taking Communion to our homebound parishioners. They not only bring Communion, but also bring their warm smiles and kind hearts.
Time Commitment: 20-60 min. every Wed or Thurs (your choice)
Communion to Our Homebound
This is a ministry that allows our parishioners to share their love for the Eucharist and their compassion for our homebound by taking Communion to those of us who are limited by age, disability, or illness. They not only bring Communion, but also bring their warm smiles and kind hearts.
Time Commitment: Once a week on whatever day you are available.
Divorced or Separated Catholics
This is a support group that comes together to bring members of the parish who have experienced the loss of a partner through separation or divorce. The meetings provide a place of welcome and acceptance where participants can share their faith experience at a time when some feel alienated from church, family and friends.
Time Commitment: Meetings will be held on whatever day and time the group mandates.
Financial Peace University
We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussion and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!
Time Commitment: FPU classes meet for around 1 1/2 hours each week for nine weeks
Greeting Card Ministry
The volunteers within this ministry send out birthday and sympathy cards to our parishioners.
Time Commitment: 1 hour, once a year.
Grief Support Group Sessions
Twice a year, we hold a six-seven week Grief Support Program. This program provides a safe environment for our bereaved members to work and/or grow through the mourning process. If you have lost a loved one recently, this group will help you to move through your grieving period.
Time Commitment: 1 hour a week for a 6-7 week session.
This ministry is filled with many gifted people who we can call on when a project arises out of the blue and we need help. They have many gifts that they contribute at a moment’s notice. Also, if you have a gift that is not listed here, please let us know and we will find a way for you to share it with us.
Time Commitment: Varies according to your wishes.
Hospital Eucharistic Minister/ Hospital Visitor
We visit the sick at McLaren Macomb and Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals and share of ourselves with prayer, company, comfort, and the healing power of the Body of Christ.
Time Commitment: The amount of time can be as little as one morning a week or several times a month depending on your availability.
Interfaith Caregiver Volunteers
This program matches caring volunteers of all ages with older and disabled adults to provide a variety of supportive services such as:
- transportation for appointments and help with errands
- minor home repairs, maintenance, chores and yard work
- light housekeeping and meal preparation
- friendly visits and supportive phone calls
- respite care (relief breaks) for family caregivers
Time Commitment: Varies according to your wishes. You pick if you would like to drive seniors to the doctor's office, Mass, or if you would like to prepare a meal, etc. Your choice!
Knights of Columbus
This outreach ministry consists of a very active group of Catholic gentlemen who work tirelessly in the community. This is a great way to make a personal contribution to the Church and community through charity and fraternity.
Time Commitment: 2 hours every 3rd Wednesday of the month
Ladies Craft Ministry
If you can knit, crochet, sew, quilt, make rosaries, etc., this is the ministry for you. Our crafty ladies make rosaries for missions, baby items for Turning Point, Abigayle Ministries, Compassion Pregnancy Center, and Christmas gifts for our homebound (from St. Peter Church) that consist of quilts, blankets, lap throws, scarves, hats, etc.
Time Commitment: At home, when the Spirit moves you, or every second Saturday in the Fr. Welch Hall.
Life for Love
God is Love. He created every life for love. We seek to show His compassion and be His hands in our community through prayer, education, and outreach. Our newly-formed group will incorporate prior activities such as the Mother's Day Flower Sale and Parish Baby Shower, but we are looking for your fresh ideas to expand our mission! Come be part of a growing movement that is increasingly winning hearts and changing lives.
Time Commitment: Varies based on your interests.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter offers an experience designed to give married couples the opportunity to learn a technique of loving communication that they can use for the rest of their lives. It’s a chance to look deeply into their relationship with each other and with God. The weekend provides an environment which is conducive for couples to spend time together, away from the distractions and tensions of everyday life, while encouraging them to focus on each other and their relationship. Every marriage deserves this kind of attention.
Time Commitment: One scheduled weekend.
MCREST Team Member
The group consists of Mission Specialists who are interested in planning a mission to house the homeless at St. Peter Church one week in July each year. Many hands make for light work during this exciting and rewarding week. There are many tasks needed to accomplish their mission, from transportation, shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing, entertainment, set up, break down, etc.
Time Commitment: From 1-30 hours scattered over 10 days (planning in May & June, MCREST week in July)
Parish Community Vegetable Garden (Off Premises)
Our parish members, with or without green thumbs, work together to grow vegetables and fruit on a 4-½ acre piece of land, for our families who are in need. Their work consists of planning, plowing, fertilizing, planting, weeding, harvesting, and distributing the fruit of their labor. We have fun and invite EVERYONE out to have fun with us.
Time Commitment: 1 hour a week or 1 hour a month; any time commitment will be greatly appreciated
Parish Garden Angels (Parish Grounds)
These angels who love to play in the dirt transform our church, school, rectory, and administration building grounds into the most beautiful and tranquil gardens.
Time Commitment: Whenever the Spirit moves you (Spring, Summer, Fall).
Our caregivers provide short term relief in a strictly companion-sitter type of service. There is no “hands-on” responsibility.
Time Commitment: Varies with need and availability.
Retrouvaille – A Christian Peer Ministry
If your marriage is tearing the two of you apart, if there is little or no meaningful communication, if you are considering separation or divorce, we believe Retrouvaille can help you. Retrouvaille begins with a weekend experience in which husbands and wives are helped to re-establish communication and to gain new insights into themselves as individuals and as a couple.
Time Commitment: One Retrouvaille Weekend and One Post Weekend.
St. Joseph’s Handyman
St. Joseph’s Crew members work in crews of 4-5 individuals to complete small painting and repair projects, etc. within the parish.
Time Commitment: As needed during the year.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Grow spiritually through a person-to-person service to the poor and needy. This heart-warming group services poor and needy in our community with food, clothing, bus tickets, etc. New members are always accepted.
Time Commitment: 2 hours a week, 10:00 AM until Noon, on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.
Volunteer Task Force
The Volunteer Task Force is a group charged with the task of enhancing our ability to connect the passions and gifts of our parishioners with the ministries of the church which is moving into a new phase of its work. In the coming months, the task force will be offering opportunities to take a spiritual gifts inventory and/or survey of available volunteer options in our church. We hope to improve awareness and communication and energize our Parish.
